Love bread? Love cake more? Then you’re sure to love this recipe for the bread-cake hybrid called Guiness Bread. This recipe came from our favourite chef at our favourite restaurant, the fabulous Stoke Place. It’s not your usual bread that requires hours of kneading. This is no knead doughy goodness that has a cake texture yet is savoury. To make you’ll need;
500g whole meal flour
20g salt
15g bicarbonate of soda
40g butter
60g back treacle
1 pint of Guiness
Begin by adding all the dry ingredients together. Mix in softened butter and treacle and rub the mixture together until crumbs are formed (like you would for scones).
Slowly add in the Guinness and give it a good stir.
Placed in a lined loaf tin and bake for 180c for 50 minutes.
We served our freshly baked Guiness bread with a platter of cheese, fresh salad and cold meat but it really doesn’t need this. Butter and rock salt is justice enough.

Guinness and treacle! Yum!
